program to delete duplicate files on computer?
I need a program that will delete duplicates of files but to make sure they delete the right files I need it to compare file size, date edited, etc etc. I just want to make sure I'm deleting the exact same copies of the file because I have a ton in my sugarsync folder and it is very tedious to go through them all.
thanks guys! |

There's also Doublekiller, which I've used and recommend:

This looks like a sweet program. Am curious though how accurate it is. It makes it sound like it compares every file byte to byte. I have a ton of pics with the different filename but exact same picture. Hopefully it finds all the duplicates. Though I'm hesitant to delete all duplicates it finds because not totally sure how they do this accurately.

Be careful with this. Some applications use the same type of file which are located in two different folders. If you eliminate one then the app may not know where to find the file it needs. I have gotten into trouble deleting duplicate .dll files.
Unless it is broke, it does not need fixing.

Ages ago, in the days of Win 3.1 (or it might have been 98) I had a nice utility that allowed you to view files in different ways - best, it could list all files on a drive by name or type, totally bypassing the directory structure. Basically it was a non-MS File Manager. Something like this could be useful, although it would mean manual deletion. Slow but safe?
Anyone know if something like this still exists? Chris |
