No emotions in windows live messenger
My friend and i chat on Windows live messenger regularly and suddenly her emotions are not showing on her her messenger. The only thing that shows is the short cut symbol/code and not the emotion icon. Have been into tools/option/messages and ticked the "Show emotions" and "Show custom icons" but no luck, still dont see the emotions icon. When I receive them fron her, the icon shows up properly but doesnt show up as the emotion in her window of messenger. Same when I send her an emotion, I see it at my end but all she gets is the shortcut/code for the emotion.
When I tick the "show emotions and show custom emotions" in the tools menu, every time I go back to the menu, the ticks have been removed.any ideas guys? All suggestions appreciated. We are both running win 7 and the latest version of Windows live messenger.

I believe they are called emoticons. Sorry, I don't have any ideas. If you can't find a solution you could always type out your emoticon the old fashioned way.

Problem is typing them in the old fashioned way requires a good memory and even when she does that on her messenger, she still doesn't see the emoticon on her messenger window or when I send her one same thing, she doesnt see the emoticon. |

There is an option in the menu bar - tools - options - messages, and then click the box in show emoticons... try it again

It is frustrating. I have tried closing messenger and re logging in after I tick those boxes but when I log in to messenger again, the options are unticked again. I have logged onto her messenger username on a different computer and it works fine so it isn't a problem with her account but something on her particular messenger software. |

Have you tried checking for malware and then having her repair it?

This may not be the permanent answer but using remote assistance last night, I got it working by just by placing a tick in the option "Show Emoticons" and leaving the option "Show custom Emoticons" unticked. This seems to have worked and the tick stayed in place last night and her emoticons were working okay. will be interesting to see if the tick still stays in place after she shut down her computer and reboots it.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It may well be worth checking for malware though cos my messenger is set up with both options ticked and works fine. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. appreciated. |
