Noise Filter for Microphone/Headset

I'm looking for a program, preferably for free, that can filter out static/white noise as I speak. Teamspeak does this automatically and works amazingly well but other chat programs like skype and ventrilo don't filter out white noise at all. When I record directly to my computer through audacity or other programs there's also no filter.

If would be wonderful to have a program that could do this so I wouldn't have to do all of my audio recording and chat through teamspeak.

Any ideas?

No wait, Audacity does have a sound filter.
It used to give that "speaking into a tunnel" effect but within the last year or so that was said to have improved.
Check your settings and check for updates.
