Trying to instal software for widescreen setup

I have been going around in circles in a different forum that is all about computers with multiple monitors. Basically the people there already assume you are an expert in file management, which I am nowhere near close.

I am trying to install a .dll file into a library which corrects for wide screen errors in Skyrim. The software is called Widescreen Fixer, which is already installed, the older version. I cannot find the library for the older version 3.0.242.

So there is a new version, 3.0.242., http://www.widescreenfixer.org/ The instructions say to install the patch into the library but it does not say how to install the software. There is no either before you uncompress it or after you uncompress the file that just installs it.

I was able to get the newer 1.4.21.0.4 plugin installed into the library but I have not been able to get the latest version of the software installed., version,

I am almost at the point of paying a tech a 100 bucks to come out to the house to fix it...I have been at this all day long.

I am user name "researchcapt"

There is a whole other solution by a guy named Hayden that is not working for me either.

Does anyone have experience working with complex files, uncompressing folders, installing uncompressed software and installing dll's in libraries.

I think the basic problem with this software is that it is made by amateurs and does not install or update like professionally made software, and I just don't have the expertise with file management to make it work. I would pay for it if it was easy to install and update.

I would be willing to pay someone to walk me through this over the phone. Please Private Message me if you might be interested in making some money. I'm thinking the way to do this might be for you to install it on your computer at the same time so you can see what I am seeing. You can always delete it afterwards of course.

1. Do you have .NET 4.0 installed?
2. Do you have VC++ SP1 installed?
3. Do you have 7-Zip installed?

If so, it looks to me like all you have to do is download the fixer, create a folder somewhere, and use 7-Zip to extract the download into the folder. Then you go into the folder, find the executable, and run it.

I give up. I have wasted a day and a half on this. I'm going to pay someone to come over and fix it.

The mod locked my thread....now I can't get any help from them. I was not rude or demanding at all. I thought I was pretty nice and professional about it. Clearly, not all of the information I need to get this software working is there.

Looking for Hayden's Fix for Skyrim/Eyefinity | Widescreen Gaming Forum

That's another reason I like this forum. The experts here are very tolerant of people who are not experts.

Dave, without knowing if you read through that last link and tried anything out I'm at a stand.
What else have you done?

I don't know anything about the program you are trying to run or patch, so it is difficult to know the ins an outs of it. However, you mention installing a DLL. Sometimes, just placing a DLL in the program's directory isn't enough. It also needs registering. I do know how that should work so I'll say about it in case it helps.

* Click the Windows Start Button and go to 'All Programs > Accessories'.
* Find the 'Command Prompt' icon and right-click on it.
* Select 'Run as Administrator'.
* A Command Prompt Window will open.
* Type: cd\ and press Enter. (you will see: C:\> in the window)
* Type: cd (path to folder where the DLL is located) and press Enter
* Type: regsvr32 (name of the DLL including 'dll') and press Enter.

There should be a gap between cd and the path to the folder. Also a gap between regsvr32 and the name of the DLL. No brackets anywhere either. These are only to demonstrate what should be typed there.

I ended up paying a guy who I found on Craigslist to come out to my house to make it work. He made it work, and explained the confusion that I had about extracting files, types of files and exactly where they are supposed to go. The site where I downloaded the software assumed people already know this stuff. For me it wasn't so basic. I feel good about learning a few things about files and folders.

The downside is that there is still no fix that works for Skyrim on three monitors, although I have managed to get myself up to level 14 in the game. The game still has its shortfalls without a fix. It's an amazingly beautiful game. It's nice just to walk (or ride your horse) around in the game looking at the scenery.

If only all game manufacturers wrote their games to work with Eyefinity and Nvidia's three monitor cards and drivers.
