Question about external Hard drive..

my western digital external hd is working fine but when i hook into usb on my laptop it recognizes it but it says that folders are empty. When i hook it up to television it shows everything on it but for some reason its not showing files and folders on laptop, i have never had this problem before until now. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Is there any software that came with the enclosure? It may need to be installed on the laptop prior to hooking it up.

The other possibility is that your laptop has a recent update.
What's been added since it last saw the external drive?

Does your laptop see files on any other USB device?
Say a 2 gb USB key.

What files are on the harddrive (file extensions - ie .wmp or .mp4)?

it all different file ext. it works on my desktop pc but does not on my laptop. Very weird....the other 2 work fine on my laptop and even this one did too until now. This one though does not have power cord, the only power it gets is when u plug it in to the laptop or pc.

Does it have a power jack socket on it?
What media player are you using on the PC that recognises the files?

I'd copy all the files off it to your desktop, then reformat it and copy the files back.
