Word 2000 problem after HDD swap XP

hi all, its been a while but i have a problem thats driving me mad
try and keep it brief, my friend had a pc and their house was struck by lightning which killed the psu and probably mobo.

took out their HDD and put into another tower and all seemed ok although had to find drivers etc and also windows asked me to re verify it was legit

i couldnt find a short cut to word in the start 'all programs' list but found a shortcut in the office folder which seemed to work but that also behaved like it was the first time it had been used and asked if i wanted to register my copy of word

i installed 2 sticks of 1gb ram which was max for the board and updated the system memory settings.

problem is when they try to copy and paste a pic off the internet into word they get an error saying 'there is insufficient memory of disk space, close extra windows and save your work'
i have tried renaming Normal.dot file, i can sometimes get it to work by opening internet explorer, right click and copy image, open word and it will paste, sometimes...
if i paste to paint first and then copy and paste from paint to word it works fine.
i cant get it to work from google chrome either.

if word is open and explorer it wont work and sometimes if i have pasted a pic from paint and then paste from the net it might work a couple of times or more for that doc but then a new doc its back to the same error

sorry for the long post but something may be relevant, but any help would be massively appreciated

cheers

3070 minimum and maximum would be good.

However, the pagefile may be seriously fragmented. DISABLE it, reboot, run a defrag, then re-enable it. Setting it to same size minimum and maximum will prevent fragmentation.

hi, tried that as you said but still no joy, its weird as its only if i try and paste from the net, i can paste from paint and i can insert picture from file...
once i have a pic in the doc i can paste it as many times as i like down the page

i am getting an office 2000 disc to try and repair word, do you think that would help?

thanks very much
