Cheap and legitimate copy of MS Office (PC and Mac)

HUP is Microsofts Home Use Program. Essentially, it is a volume license purchase plan for companies to use to distribute large quantities to their employees as a "perk" for working there. There are a lot of companies that either don't know that they can take advantage of this, or they don't bother telling their employees that they can get Office Pro for $10 (Or Office for Mac, for the same price). It is even mentioned on the wikipedia page for Office 2013

The price is valid for companies that are part of the Microsoft HUP (Home Use Program). You must enter your company email to qualify. I have also seen school & military emails work for this deal (Military personal would use the .mil email address in the form of @us.af.mil, @us.navy.mil, etc for it to work).

Even if your company email is not working, but you know they are part of HUP. You can get a program code from HR/Admin and enter it in at the program eligibility page.

Then click "Enter Program Code Manually" on the right hand side

This is a digital download but you have the option of a back disc as well $13).

Follow these simple steps:

Step 1. Microsoft Home Use Program - Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013. The software suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access and more!
Step 2. Enter your work email address to check your company's eligibility.
Step 3. Microsoft will send you an email with a buy link
Step 4. Buy the software, download and Enjoy!.

Allows you to Buy
Office for Mac 2011 - $9.95
Microsoft Project Professional 2013 - $9.95
Microsoft Visio Professional 2013 - $9.95
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 - $9.95

I have Office 2000 on my home computer. As I see it the old versions of Word and Excel work just as good as the new versions, plus there isn't any of the copy protection nonsense to deal with other than entering the 25 digit code.

I did a bit of checking, and this program appears legitimate.

Microsoft Volume Licensing - Microsoft Software Assurance Benefits - Home Use Program

However, there is a huge cavieat to this program--your workplace needs to be a participant in order for you to be able to take advantage of this. Also, once your employment with your workplace ceases, you are required to uninstall the software.

For a workplace to be an active participant, the workplace has to have a volume license with software assurance. If you don't know what that means, ask your IT department if your workplace participates in the program.

The university I work for has the equivalent for Windows 7, called Windows Enterprise. Perhaps a Trekkie thought up the name? It "phones home" with your location and if your computer is outside of a designated area Microsoft will disable it.

It has multiple licenses? (which mine does). Or is it just the exact same OS without the multiple licenses?

Not to sound like a jerk, but if the 2000 version is just as good to you, you aren't using them to their full extent. The new functions in Excel (that were introduced in the 2010 version) have made things a lot easier for me when trying to manipulate graphs & pivot tables. There were things like the "Slicer" that were introduced that completely changed how graphs can suddenly be interactive.

I can't speak to the changes in Word (I rarely ever use it), but from co-workers, I have heard really great things.

Microsoft does volume licensing for as little as 5 PCs, so it's not all that uncommon to see even small businesses get these deals. And if you don't know if they are involved, all you have to do is enter your email address on the HUP page, and it will tell you if you qualify for it.

Yep, it's a great deal if your workplace offers it. I took advantage of it at my work. Tough to pass up at $10.00.
