MP3s (sorry didn't know where to post)

I know this isn't the right forum but still (where should I have posted this? )

I was just wondering if I could take down the bitrate of an MP3 (I have dled a 320Kbit file, weighing in at 16megs )

Just want to take it down to 128 or something, any ideas?

Thanks,

Hi Jim,

You could turn it into a .wav file first and then turn the .wav file back into an mp3 just at 128bits/s this time. To me this seems like too much work, but it's one way I guess you could do it. Are there easier ways? TIA.

Hi Jim,

Winamp is one program that will do it for ya. If you don't have it, you can get it at www.winamp.com.

To change the file into .wav in winamp go to Options/Preferences then to plug-ins, to Output and doubleclick on the Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in. The file will be turned into a .wav file when you play it. After you're done just change it back to Nullsoft waveOut plug-in.

That's one program, cdex will do it for ya two, both ways (mp3 to .wav and .wav to mp3(winamp can't turn .wav's into mp3's, maybe with an additional plug-in, I'm not sure).

The url for it is: http://cdex.n3.net/

Both programs are free.

HTH

Wow thanks Floppyman, I've had WinAmp for years, but never knew it could do that

I already have a basic program for converting to MP3 (Called N-Koder, don't know where I got it)

I'll try and get back to you...

Thanks,

I prefer dbPowerAmp. It's also free.
Will normalize any MP3, without conversion to .wav, and will batch convert a whole folder full of MP3's into any bitrate you want.

WPLay also converts a batch of mp3s. Great program...only downside is to get rid of splash screen you have to pay the $10 reg fee.

Howdy folks,
This post will be allowed to continue however be advised a "general software" has been developed for questions such as these. (I think?)
I too would have had difficulty in deciding the correct forum for a post such as this. No biggy, just keep the new forum in mind for future posts please.
