Video Editing Question
Hi all,
Once you have edited video on your computer how would you output it and record it straight to a VHS tape? Would you need a videocard that has a RCA out? Or is there another way? Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
either with a video capture board like the Pinnacle DVplus (digital firewire capture card + analog output), or with a graphics card with tv-out (usually they have s-video, not rca. S-video gives you better quality, and there are also s-video-to-rca-converters). And don't forget to connect audio as well ^I don't know if you already got a firewire capture card. If not, then consider the Pinnacle Studio DVplus (plus is important. The cheaper Studio DV is firewire only, no analog outputs. Therefore it's also cheaper, no digital-analog converters needed). RJ

Thanks for the reply RJ,
It looks I would need a board that has both firewire and analog in/outs. Pinnacle makes the Studio Deluxe but it's pretty expensive. Would it make more sense to get a separate firewire card (like the ATI DV Wonder card for example), to capture digital video and then use an analog capture card such as the Pinnacle Studio AV to output it? It woud be cheaper than buying a combo card. Would this work? Thanks again. |

Seperate cards like that tend not to like each other for a variety of reasons. I've been there, done that. That's why I've got the Pinnacle DV500 -- all in one and no more crashes!
The Studio Deluxe looks like a great card -- or you could look at the Radeon 8500DV. I believe it stll has the analog outs as well as firewire. -Craig |

There is another possibility which I forgot:
If your camcorder has digital input, analog input and output, then you can use it for vcr copying. Copy the edited video via firewire to dv tape, connect camcorder to vcr and copy from tv tape to vhs tape. Vice versa, copy from vhs tape to dv tape and then normal via firewire to hard drive. RJ |
