I need an Inventory software

I need a software so I can make an inventory of all of our PCs, what specs they have, and what software is on them. We don't have MS Access, and I don't know if I can get the funds for it. I used a program in high school to make a custom database of all of the music in the band department, but can't remember what it was called. Maybe it was bookshelf or file-cabinet? I can't remember, and the band director is long-gone, so I can't ask him either. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks a lot.

before i had access, i used to make rinky-dink databases with excel spreadsheets, and then whenever i wanted to run a report of them, i would use a mail merge in word to come up with the style i wanted.

I wonder if the flat file database that comes with MS Works would be good enough? Actually I think that buying a single copy of just Access is fairly affordable, expecially if you find an older version on a surplus software site.

Access is a very powerfull program too, not the easiest thing in the world to use, but it's capabilities are almost endless if you know it real good. When you use it, I would sugguesst that you not rely on the undo so much, as in Access most of the time you can only use it one time. Now this could also be because of the fact that I'm not one of those people that know how to use it reall good.
