SiSoftSandra says...
Never messed with config.sys much.
The performance tests and tips says I should remove EMM386 from config.sys because it uses memory and Win98 will do the same as Emm386 does. Is that safe to do? How do I do it? Can I Run/MSCONFIG/config.sys tab and uncheck EMM386.exe and then Apply? TIA!

Hi TimPoet,
Win98 doesn't need the config.sys or autoexec.bat files in order to function and disabling them in using the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) won't affect Windows performance. You only would need those if you use DOS based programs. Yes, you can just uncheck the Process config.sys and autoexec.bat options in the System Configuration Utility (msconfig). Cricket

If you have a Creative (and probably some other) PCI sound cards, if you remove EMM386.EXE from config.sys, you will get a bootup error, the dos emulator won't load. I'd leave it be unless you have proof that it's affecting something, I've never seen it affect performance.
