Bonzai Buddy

Hi Folks....My good friend down in Az. sez his computer is running real slow, and he has a program called bonzai buddy installed, As I can recall from way back when I had that same problem when I had that program on one of my own machines ( his machine is a P C Chips board, 450 meg k62, with 120 meg ram, 250watt psu,20 gig maxtor Hard drive,C-D burner???,)Can this B B be removed thru the add remove in the control panel?? Or is there something else that has to be done???I also told him to get ad-aware and install and run, also Swat it,just to see if anything else might be the culpret. He is running Nortons system works 2001..TIA...GaryD...

mouse 1,
That little bird has loaded spyware on his system. I had it once also. After ininstalling, type bonzai in "Find" and watch how many folders and files are still there.

Hi mouse1,

You can check in the Add/Remove section of Control Panel to see if there's anything in there relating to Bonzai Buddy. Ad-Aware should take care of it also. Even if it is in Add/Remove, I'd still run Ad-Aware on a regular basis. You'd be amazed what it'll find. Also, in case he's wondering where it came from, one of the most popular downloads I know of that has Bonzai Buddy packed in with it is Kazaa. If he's using this then that's one of the bad things you get with it. A friend said he got Gator with it one time too but I don't know if it comes with it for sure or not.

mouse 1,
AdAware should remove all if not most spyware.
I remembered two spywares as "Comet Curser" and "Tadsbot".
Even after adAware, I went into the Registry, and those two were still there, so I removed them.

mouse 1,
Some on-line games load spyware also.
After playing a game or two, they should run AdAware to be sure.

Also tell your buddy to lose the System Works - that will slow the machine down too. By the way, spelling counts - it's "Bonzi Buddy".

I didn't intend to criticize your spelling - it's just if you search for the wrong thing you won't find it!

The only portion of System Works that you should have running in the background is the antivirus. If you have windoctor, etc. running all the time, it WILL slow the machine down and cause instabilities. I learned this a long time ago.

Mouse1...........I ued systemworks and found out that it is resource hog. I only use the antivirus now because if you need to use it you can run windoctor off of the cd and don't need to load it. GLC is correct it slowed down my machine and caused a few instabilities.
