Sound from Video

I was wondering if there is a program I could download that would allow me to capture the audio from a video file on my computer. I want to sound from it to be a seperate file (mp3) and not part of the video.

Its not important enough to go out and buy something, just wondering if there was some program I could get to do this. Im working on some mix cds, thats why I need this. I looked online but I couldnt find anything.

Hi,

what video file ?

For AVI: Use VirtualDub (www.virtualdub.org)
For MPEG: Use TMPGEnc (www.tmpgenc.net)

Thanks for the links guys. The video files are all WMVs. Is there another specific program I can use for this file type or can I get some kind of converter and use the MPEG or AVI programs that RJ pointed out.

Hmm. I've never used WMV, but you can try VirtualDub anyway, maybe it works with WMV, too.
TMPGEnc is a MPEG encoder, so if it accepts WMV files (I don't know if it does) you can convert them to MPEG and then use TMPGEnc to demux the audio.

You should also take a look at ModPlayer, I'm not sure if it will do what you want to do now, but it's nice and it plays audio formats that aren't very common, like those files used in games, even old games (I used it to convert the music from Crusader games to wav and mp3). It's also a light download.
