I need some help.
I recently installed untraceable 3.0 which removes files in realtime of where you have been on the internet and locally. I removed the recent files from Word 2000 and now Winword will never launch without displaying the error "winword.exe has generated errors and log is being created you must restart the program. (or something like that) I have tried to uninstall my office 2000 pro suite and reinstall and still get the same error. I have tried to update word with the april 25th update and still get the same error. I have tried to update my office suite to sp2 and still get the same error. I have run norton disk doctor and regcleaner to see if there are any registry errors that it can fix but still does not work. I have contacted Untraceable but have not recieved a reply. All other applications within the suite work fine even when I removed their recent files also. It only seems to be word that has the problem. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you |

Hi jjarrin, welcome to the PC Mech forums!
Have you checked the actual error log that is generated by Word? It probably gives the name of the file or specific problem that is causing the error. |

I don't know where to locate that file. It doesn't state where it is being written to.

If you don't see anything in the log that i s helpful to you, you might try searching for the normal.dot file on the drive where Word is installed. Once you find the file delete it. It will be recreated upon opening Word. This will fix a lot of problems relating to opening Word.
It might be too late but can Untraceable restore the files that it removed? Sorry but I'm not familar with the program. |

still can't find the log file that is created. However I did try removing the normal.dot file as you mentioned. Word still gives the same error and doesn't seem to recreate the file.
I did try to launch word with the /a command which disables all templates and that seemed to work. It's not a permanent solution because you can't save any customization to the template or settings. But at least I can read and print my word docs. Still looking for a permanent solution but everyone's help has been appreciated. |

If you haven't been here it's a good place to start. After looking at the web page for untraceable I'll bet it is the cause. There are some registry edits that may help you. Keep us posted, I'll look around a little more. |
