KazaA

Being a beginner and not knowing any better, I downloaded KazaA and now cannot un-install. I continue to get a prompt that says, "You have un-installed a part of KazaA that is needed to run. KazaA will quit now so you can re-install it."
I have been into "Programs" and deleted it, went into Device Manager, deleted it, but it comes back.

Also somehow got "Now Box", have no idea where it came from. Went to Add/Remove programs, tried to remove. Got prompt "Could not open INSTAL.LOG file" can anyone help me out???????

That means, that specific file, install.log is missing and you uninstall without it there.

I think he's asking how he can get rid of all traces of these programs without that file being there.

There is a lot of spyware associated with Kaaza. I suggest first doing a search for "Kaaza" and deleting all files/folders. Then searching for the spyware it installs and deleting that (If you go to the Gnucleus forums they should help give you the names of the spyware, they totally hate Kaaza and spyware over there). Then after all of this get RegCleaner or Jv16PowerTools and clean out your registry. You can also try Ad-Aware on top of this. I think the URl is www.Lavasoft.com. Make sure to download the latest reference file for it too.

Sounds like you may have deleted files needed to totally uninstall the program, but I don't trust Kaaza anyway, so it may not be your fault.

Good luck.

(did Kaaza really get listed in your Device Manager? That's odd.)

Wait, one more thing... defrag after all that

There's another way to run Kazza without resorting to Kazzalite, so that you can still use all the features of the full version of Kazza without the spyware. It requires replacing a file that Kazza installs. Run a google search or check the user comments in the Cnet download section for a link to a site that'll explain how it's done. There's also a way to get rid of the restrictions on searching so that you can download mp3's with higher bitrates.

Hey Ex, let me ask you this: How did you first attempt to uninstall it? Did you go to Add/Remove Programs, or use the uninstall function it has in the Programs menu? Hopefully you didn't simply delete Kazaa....
Let us know.

Kazaa cannot be completely removed from the Add/Remove Programs Applet. It leaves behind a fair part of Kazaa and all of its spyware.

go to www.downloads.com and try to find an un-install program, a lot of these work much better than the one that comes with windows.

Fair warning that Kazaa Lite also now comes with spyware!

If you install it make sure to run Adaware after you do.
