Easycleaner will compare and then show all duplicate files in your system, but leaves it up to you which ones to remove.
Does anyone know of a utility that will compare files and remove the ones you don't need? Preferably freeware? Carl |

I have not found any that actualy tell you which ones are not needed. I use jv16PowerTools (btw)
I don't think that a program telling you which ones are safe to remove is a safe thing to count on, in that instance, and therefore such utilities don't carry that function, since it is purely a subjective view on the matter. If there was a utility that did tell me which one to delete, I would'nt trust it right off the bat. Anyway, one thing you can do is find all your shortcuts for the program (if you happen to have two installations of it), and see where the target is. That is the one you keep. If they are programs that are not installed yet, then it wouldn't matter which one you deleted. I suppose you could delete both if you did'nt want any copy of it. On another note, you can download jv16PowerTools and know you have the best program do what EasyCleaner is doing plus everything else you might think of. I highly suggest it. It finds zero length files, invalid shortcuts, duplicates, etc. etc. plus it has the most powerful (and safe) registry cleaner I have ever seen. It does so much more though. I wouldn't try to run Windows too long without it anymore. (some things in this world are still left up to the user to decide, would ya' believe.) Last edited by DilLy; 08-12-2002 at 01:14 AM. |

Hi DiLy,
I do have JV16 and use it to clean things up. I better check all the options and look for the duplicates function. Left to decide on my own? I'd have to flip a coin. Thanks for the help. Carl |
