Okay, I know that there are programs that are capable of recovering files that have been deleted... so how do I make sure that when i permanently delete things, they're gone permanently... as in no data recovery program can bring them back?

Melt the hard disk until it pours like a liquid.

so you want it so that the data cannot be recovered?
I would just delete it and not recover it. The only real way that I know of is to completely repartition the drive. But that may be a little extreme, as it deletes everything. Am i wrong? does repartitioning make things unrecoverable? |

Yes, thats correct, I want it so that the data cannot be recovered, by any means, ever... What I am looking for is a program that enables me to remove things from the hard drive, without a trace of them ever. I wouldn't want someone snooping around my hard drive, and recovering things from my recyling bin that could come back to haunt me.

By any means, forever? The only way is to physically destroy the drive.

Well I don't really want to destroy the drive, I'm not that desperate. Is there any way to encrypt or password protect the entire drive?

Any of these programs should do what you need.
