Ms Access 2000 Question

Trying to create custom Report in MS Access 2000. Have successfully inserted headings, footers, labels. Can't seem to get fields from database. Instruction say to open report in design view, then click on Field List and insert fields desired. When I do this, the field list box does not respond to my click. What's going on here? Thanks.

when you click on the "new" link in reports, there is a box at the bottom that ask's where the data comes from. if you didnt select a source at that time, then right click on an empty area in your current report and select properties. The first field listed will be record source. make sure that it shows the source you want the data fields to come from
