Need a drawing program like Visio

I am looking for some freeware of a drawing program like Visio. I am interested in doing flow charts and things of that nature for school projects. I downloaded a trial version of SMART DRAW off of CNET which draws almost anything but I don't think I will use it enough to pay for it unless is reasonably cheap. Maybe some of you have used something similar to what I am looking for and if the price is not to high I could buy it.

I remember seeing a program called free flow or something similar. Smart Draw is a pretty decent program but I think is something like $100 - $150. I like AutoDesk products more than any of the others. You couldn't justify the cost of AutoCAD for drawing flowcharts. AutoDesk does make a simplified CAD program called QuickCAD. I haven't used it much although I did purchase a copy of it start my kids on CAD. I've seen it reasonably priced in some of the larger computer stores. it would more versatile than buying something dedicated solely to flowcharts.

Visio is also an interesting program. It's pretty expensive though. I bought a copy for for a job I did ealier this year. I like it but it is nowhere near as powerful as a decent CAD program. Unless you travel in circles where it is common I would avoid it.

In the not so distant past there were some posts about a free CAD program here at the Mech. You might look back abit for the thread.
