Big Brother is starting to watch even harder

"default setting copy-protects your files so that it's impossible to play them on other computers."

Now I understand no sharing of copyrighted media, but I make personal videos that I want to share on other computers. Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves for scheming of such a plan.

Pretty soon "Big Brother" will make us call before we can even turn on our computers

Don't put the whole burden on Micro$oft - the recording industry is really throwing their weight around here.

Why don't you just use a 3rd party media player that doesn't have these cripples - or just stick with an older version of WMP without the updates?

By the way this will also be a part of XP Service Pack 1.

I don't know about the public release on Sep't 9th. I downloaded SP1 off of the premier site last night and it doesn't appear to have the new version of Media Player in it. I haven't installed it yet but i'll let you know.

I installed SP1 this afternoon and it did not include WM Player 9. But it does advertise for it when I open WM 8. My download was 133 MB. I have seen some references on the net the Sep't 9 version will be 174MB. But nothing I have seen from Microsoft would indicate this I guess we'll see.
My system does seem a little zippier. But it did change some of my associations. Nothing that five minutes wouldn't fix.
