I believe you can image across the network if you make a bootdisk with network drivers. However, it's real easy to image to another partition on the same computer, then move the image file across the network to anywhere you want.

You are much more likely to end up with up a useable image file as well.

how big do you think a image file of a 11 gig drive will be? it has 5.6 gigs free. i'm not sure how small it will compress the image. thanks

here is a vote for Norton Ghost
here is a link re: backing up a company network using Norton Ghost In latest issue of Smart Computing, they tested , and reviewed hard drive imaging software. Ghost had to bail out the other 2 softwares, one being drive image 2002 cheers, ~pawprint~ |

It's hard to estimate how large it will be. MP3's are already pretty small and I doubt the compress alot more. It's doubtful it will compress to 5.6GB. Plus you need to maintain some freespace on your drive anyway. If you don't want to burn them to CD-R's it may be time to start thinking about a larger hard drive. Or at least an additional drive.

DI 5.0 estimates a 50% ratio @ high compression, but Tuf is correct, mp3's are already a compressed format, in my experience you may get a 20% compression if all you have on the drive are mp3's.
