Problem w/ Palm Desktop Software Please Help!

Hello,
I'm on a machine using Windows ME. I'm trying to upgrade my version of Palm Desktop software on my computer @ work. I am going from Palm Destop version 4.01 to 4.1 the two new features in which i need are the expense report & the duplicate killer option. Now when i go to upgrade or even install b/c i did try to upgrade originally and then I tried to uninstall the entire program then reinstall. I get about 3/5 the way through the installation when the error comes up as follows:

Error 1304. Error writing to file
C:\Windows\INF\PalmUSBD.inf

Now when this comes up, it tell me to check if i have access to taht directory. I go to that directory and the file isn't even there. Now my question is this HOw can i completely wipe out palm entirely so this way i can make it a true fresh install. OR is there anyone out there that knows the way I could get rid of this error message and complete the install. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try installing the software with your cradle completely disconnected.
