I had them once installed in my W98 system and never ran into probs.
The only thing that I wouldn't have running at the same time is the packet writing proggies for the CDRWs. Nero comes with InCD, dunno what Roxio comes with.

So as far as I don't run both programs at the same time I should be ok then.

What OS are you running? I had EZ Cd Creator 5 installed on a system running win2k. Messed the system up to a point where it needed a complete reinstall of windows. Nowadays all I'm using is Nero.

I used INcd once, and I lost all the data on the disks I formatted with it. I thought it would be great to have full drag and drop capability on a CD, just like a floppy, but I would put the disk in afterward and the data wouldn't show up anymore. Lost a lot of stuff with that proggy.
I still want the capability, but not the bugs. Maybe they have a more stable version out now. As for now, its all Nero, all the time. Question: Does anyone know if it is possible delete just a few files off of a CDRW with Nero, and not the whole disk. Sometimes I want to organize the data on my disks and that entails getting rid of files I don't need on there anymore, but not all of them. So far all I know is that I have to clear the whole disk and re-burn it. |

Nope - the only way to do that is packet write it with InCD or DirectCD - or NTI's FileCD.

While some people seem to be doing it is not recommended. I have seen on Microsoft's site where you could install both but you would have to choose at boot up which one you want. I like Nero on XP. I have given up on Roxio ever fixing their product.

I use them both on three XP/ME systems. Works fine. Don't install INCD & DCD though. Just one packet writing program, otherwise you will have problems.

Hi Charles,
Why do you want to have both programs installed on the same PC anyway? They both do the same thing. I prefer Nero. Ever since Roxio took over Easy CD Creator, it seems to be more buggy. Cricket

There are some things that Roxio can do easier than Nero - and for those who are used to the older Adaptec software, Roxio is more user friendly. I'm among this group, but I have moved completely over to Nero myself. Charles - try the latest version of Nero (5.5.9.9) and use the Nero Express interface - this might wean you away from Roxio completely.
In reality, I like Roxio's interface and capabilities, I just can't handle the bugginess and incompatibilities. After spending 2 hours on the phone with Roxio support trying to get 5 Platinum installed on a customer's Win2K machine and not succeeding, I give up. |

My vote goes for Nero. The only reason why I'm using Roxio is the convert mp3 to CD track feature. Does Nero's newest version include something like this?

I'm still using the 5.5.8.2 version of Nero, and yes, it can convert MP3 files to audio tracks.

Main reason to keep both is that I spend time updating Adaptec to work with XP, then I acquired Nero and didn't wanted to get rid of adaptec since I am more familiar with the program. Another reason is because I heard Roxio has a feature to be able to blend volume when burning different mp3's. I don't know how true that is or if Nero has it as well. At any rate I just updated to 5.5.9.9 and will give it a shot. I know must people prefer it over Roxio, at least on this forums. Thanks.

For a long time the Roxio/Adaptec software was better and was more versatile. It's older versions don't work with XP and it's newer versions suffer from stability problems. But if whatever reason EZ CD Creator does run well on your computer there is no reason not to use it. I switched over to Nero bacause it works. I have gown to like it as well. But had EZCD worked like it did in it's earlier versions I would have never tried anything else. Simply put Nero has worked on every system I have installed it on.

and as hard as this may be to believe I have used Adaptec/Roxio since ver.2 (1997) and never had any problems ± 30 systems (myself 9 PC's, rest clients)
