Unable To Launch in zone.com
New member here, referred to you by an existing member. Not sure if this is right place for this question but here goes anyway. I play Scrabble at Microsoft's zone.com. Ever since I set up a home network this week, I have been unable to launch a game. I can *be* launched just fine. My network equipment, using Verizon DSL, consists of a 2Wire Portal on my main computer and a PC Port adapter for the USB port on my secondary computer. Can anybody help me get through this? fairfax919

I don't have a answer but repost in Networking if some of the more knowledgeable networking members don't respond in a day or so.

I'm not familiar with the 2Wire Portal, but it sounds like you need to forward some ports if the portal is doing NAT (network address translation).

Unable To Launch
And how does one "forward some ports?" Also, how can I tell if NAT is going on? Sorry for the baby questions.

i also have a dsl modem not your make, but i had that prob.... i can launch after i opended up all my ports on my firewall, But people can't still join games i host on the zone, even with my Firewall ports mapped open, the same is true for almost any TCI/IP game with direct play or any app that uses it, eg zone, gamespy, the ONLY fix i can think for it is to get a DSL modem that allows you to FULLY turn off the firewall, witch mine dosn't, or one that lacks a firewall in the first place. its a Arescom modem Netdsl 1000, i've contacted there website, no awnsers..... I would purchase another DSL modem, but they are really rare around here...

A lot of routers have a DMZ (de-militarized zone) host setting, which if you can find it will completely turn off the firewall, and generally solve any nat or firewall problems, at the price of reduced system security.
