Removing Norton AV
A friend downloaded the latest version of Norton Anti Virus. When he went to install it, it said something to the effect, "Can't install, old version of Norton AV must be removed first, go to Add/Remove Programs", etc.
OK, fine, I'll just uninstall the old version of NAV I thought. However, it's not listed in Add/Remove Programs or on the Start Menu. In fact, I can't seem to find it at all. He does have Norton System Works installed. Any suggestions?

Do a search on Symantec's web site KB for manually remove Norton. I got the manual uninstall for 2002, but it worked fine for earlier versions too.

Thanks Hal, that did the trick. Symantec's site told me where to go in the registry to do the removal.

Yeah, not sure if you've ever used it or not LawyerRon but scanreg is a great tool at removing unlisted, unwanted junk.

Blankman,
I haven't used scanreg for that purpose. Symantec's site directed me to about 4 different areas of the registry and indicated exactly which keys to remove. There were also a couple directories on the hhd that had to be deleted. I think this guy tried to remove NAV himself because I could not find it in the Start Menu or inside the normal directory were NAV resides. |
