Excel prob: Compile error in hidden module
SUBJ: Excel prob: Compile error in hidden module
The following prob is cropping up when ever I open up or close an Excel file. The message I get upon opening an Excel file is: Microsoft Visual Basic ! Compile error in hidden module: Initialization OK Help The message I get upon closing an Excel file is: Microsoft Visual Basic ! Compile error in hidden module: Utilities OK Help Tried uninstalling MSExcel then reinstalling this progz does not matter same thing occurs. A year or so back I had this same prob. I could not find a solution then and eventually I formatted the computer installed MSOffice/Excel and no prob occurred. I have formatted the computer a number of times through the years and this problem has only occurred twice now. Other than this prob in opening and closing this prog the use of the file is normal in every respect. This prob occurs with the use of any and all Excel files that are opened and closed. Excel prob- Compile error hidden module Compile error in hidden module: A protected module can't be displayed. This error has the following cause and solution: There is a compilation error in the code of the specified module, but it can't be displayed because the project is protected. Unprotect the project, and then run the code again to view the error. For additional information, select the item in question and press F1. Short of formatting and cleaning up this computer, which I just did a week ago because of other probs, I do not plan to format or clean out this machine for sometime. The instructions in the help section of Excel are rather general and not very specific. What exactly do I need to do to clean up this module compile error? Thanks in advance for any information or instructions on this matter. Calamospiza |

Did you install Adobe Acrobat?
To resolve this problem, remove the Pdfwrite.xla file from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Xlstart folder on your hard disk. If this doesn't apply, try using Google to search on the exact error message. |

Re: Compile error hidden module
Please note that I am addressing more than one forum as I originally posted this on several forums. Yes I did recently install this appz. >Did you install Adobe Acrobat? >Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Xlstart folder on your hard disk. >To resolve this problem, remove the Pdfwrite.xla file from the C:\Program It was suggested in the pcmech.com forum that a particular file or files might be causing the problem and to try removing that file. This removed the problem with the error message, “Compile error hidden module”, while opening and closing Excel but I still could not create PDF files from Word or Excel. Also at this point I discovered that trying convert Word into a PDF file was also a prob. I got error messages about “Transformation failed - Process Failed - Job ended”. >I'll throw some fixes your way It was suggested in mindgamezz.com to visit several websites concerning discussion of possible fixes. I visited these sites, briefly, and gained a sense or notion that perhaps there exist incompatibility issues between acrobat 5.0 and Office XP. Just very, recently I upgraded my MSOffice version from 97 to XP. Before this event I never had a prob with using either Acrobat 4.05 or 5.0. >Office XP VB error: Compile Error in Hidden Module (6 messages; 9/23/02) 2 new I visited the Adobe.com/discussion website and found more information about the incompatibility of Office XP (Word, Excel), Acrobat 5.0 and the “Compile error hidden module - vb” error message. No concrete solution was suggested as to what to do in here although several folks mentioned that they were experiencing this particular problem. Next I visited the Adobe download section and obtained an update for Acrobat 5.05. Installed this but still get error messages, “Transformation failed - Process Failed - Job ended”, when I attempt to use the “drop word or excel file on an open, blank Acrobat window” method (this is what I always did in the past and it worked). Next I attempted to open the “Acrobat” menu or icon of the particular MSOffice Appz and selected “Convert to Adobe PDF. This did not really work either - no error message appeared, but this process “stalled out” and eventually I just closed this process. Although nothing was frozen it just not proceeding any further. Finally, with my Word or Excel file opened, I tried opening the “Print” item under the “File” menu and then selected Acrobat PDFWriter. This seemed to do the trick for both Excel and Word – I now can create PDF files. The annoying error message, “Compile error hidden module”, is not a problem now as it does not appear any longer. |
