See more in CMOS ?

I think this belongs in 'Hardware' but those guys have posted dire warnings about off topic stuff so I hope this is OK here
Seriously- What is BIOS/CMOS ? Firmware ?

I have a HDD problem and when I look in CMOS all I am seeing
in the 'power' section is Master or Slave and an Enable/Disable switch for each.
In some old A+ manual they are showing a ton of stuff- cyls- size- lanz-sector etc plus AUTO mode etc etc.
Am I failing to open some sub menu ?
This is a PhoenixBios 1998 on a 4yr old HP Pavillion.
I am accessing it via F1 on bootup.

ps- on the hdd unit itself, the label says I should see in cmos, either 'auto detect' or 'user defined' and enter CHS parameters. Dont see that.

Thanks.
Chris

Straight from PCMech...

BIOS > http://www.pcmech.com/bios.htm

and

CMOS > http://www.pcmech.com/show/bios/23/

Hope that gives a little extra insight... plus, with your particular brand of HDD, have you looked to see if there is a diagnostic utility that you can run?... What OS are you using?

Good luck

Thanks , I know what I am SUPPOSED to see, but that is my problem. Its like I'm looking at the table of contents but cant open the book. I can't get to the details.
I'll play around with it later and get back.

Chris.

Got it ! Thanks !
Was just a matter of playing around with the keyboard. I'm
not experienced with DOS.
