I just assembled my first computer and have a question about partitioning my hard drive. I am currently running Win98SE on a 40 Gig hard drive, but I am thinking about adding XP in the near future and still use Win98 sometimes. I am thinking of setting aside 4 GB for use with Win98 as the C drive and the rest of the hard drive to set aside for WinXP formatted with NFTS. Also I will be useing the Fdisk utility to do the partitioning. Is 4 GB too much for an operating system that I may not need to use much of? And in the future I may add a non windows OS just for the hay of it? Does partitioning the hard drive in 3 partitions of maybe 4 GB, 2GB, and the rest for XP sound smart? any input on this subject would be helpful.

Split the difference and go 3 gigs for 98 and 3 gigs for what ever and the rest for XP.

For a dual-boot 40 gig hdd, I would recommend the following setup
C{Win98}- 5GB DWinXP}-15GB E{storage/data}-remaining space which will be approximately 18GB. Have E partition FAT32 file system so both operating systems can access it cheers, ~pawprint~ |
