Video capture software

Looking for a cheap (preferably free) and easy to use piece of software to take still shots from MPG's... any suggestions.

Hey HAL,

VirtualDub has the ability to import MPG and then save as an image sequence. Basically, you'd set in and out markers and then save the image sequence. If you can't set the markers to one single frame, just use Paint Shop Pro or some other image editor that can deal with bmp sequences to extract the one frame you want.

VirtualBub although free, isn't real easy to use -- but for what you want to do, it's pretty straight forward.

VCDeasy (www.vcdeasy.org) is another good freeware tool for this, also with the ability to create MPEG stills.

dont know if its useful to you, i just play the movie in media player or so, and then use the printscreen button to clipboard, and then paste it in paint shop(i use 7.2, there's a 30 day trial version at jasc.com) or any image app that supports copy/paste
I dont know if it works in total full screen mode, i mostly make it a little less then fullscreen.
i use win98se, dont know about newer versions(but i think it should work)

Thanx for the suggestion, but needed something that would be a little more convienient than that. My wife and somebody else in San Fransisco run a web page that posts the pics of a soap opera a day in advance (can't believe how popular it is) and she uses the caputer software of the AIW card, she was looking for another software for somebody else that doesn't have the AIW.
