VHS to PC to VHS?
I'd like to make copies of a VHS but am having huge trouble with our VHS players getting the job done. One eats tapes, the other stops and shuts down in middle of replay.
I might be better off I can do this on PC. I have a Radeon VIVO. Is it possible to capture video with sound using this card? Then if that can be done, is it also possible to record to VHS recorder from the PC?

Hi AndyM,
The retail version of the card has TV in/out. The OEM version doesn't (it requires an option). If you have the retail (or option) then yes, you can record to the PC, edit, and send it back out to Tape. Of course, you'll need a VCR in good working order to do this. HTH TwoRails |

Thanks 2 for the quick reply,
I honestly can't remember whether I ordered the retail or OEM, but when I look at the connectors I see S-VID, then 2 yellow RCA(?) labelled COMP IN and COMP OUT. My concern would be that these things are "dead" or disabled. Is there a way to check this out? AndyM |

Hi AndyM,
I've never used this card so I have to be a little more 'general.' The yellow jacks are the video in / out (as labeled) to go to / from the VCR. Use the yellow Output from your VCR to go to the yellow Input on the vid card. For sound, plug the output of the VCR into your sound cards input, such as Line in, for recording. For playback, it's the same only different. Use the Out yellow jack on the vid card to go to the VCR video input, and use your sound cards output to go to the VCR audio input. The controlling software is a different issue. Each vid card comes with it's own software to record from a VCR (or other input) and their own way of sending it back out to the VCR (or other). This I can't help too much on because, as I mentioned, I've never used this card. HTH ![]() TwoRails |

Back to you 2,
I hooked up the VCR and got excellent video but was unable to get the sound to work. I have a Live!Drive IR and I tried several configs but no luck. I had to stop due to other pc problems posted elsewhere. That's it for now. AndyM BTW, recording and everything looks real easy with the Radeon software. |

Hi AndyM,
Most likely you don't have sound because the Live! mixer hides some of it's options, and some are normally turned off. Pull up the mixer, and (if I remember right) on the upper right side there is extra puttons, or an arrow, or something to show more options. Make sure the input you're using is shown AND not turned off. TwoRails |

Hey 2,
That was it! I didn't get that drop down thing. Changed the settings and voila! Sound and all! Now for some recording. Thanks for your help. AndyM |
