change target drive of executable

is there any way of changing the target drive of a executable. Say from d:\ to e:??
You see, my problem is: I am running a game in my e: drive...however when i installed the game, Windows configured it so it would look for the cd in d:, this is not what i want.
im not a programmer, and i know it involves editing the .exe file and what not. so, please try to explain it as easily as you can. thanks guys!

It's not in the .exe for sure; it's probably in one of two places:

1) Some kind of configuration file. Try looking in the game directory and opening any .INI or .CFG or such file with notepad, these things are *often* pure text.

2) Search the registry, it could alternatively be stored there.

In any event, I'm moving this to general software, as it's not really a programming task. Post the name of the game, maybe someone else has it and can try stuff out.

U probably installed the game from D. It wrote code to tell the PC where the game was installed from.

I have run accross that before, one work around is to reinstall over the top of it's self, from E drive. That should update the settings. However you run a risk of possibly losing some saved info. Maybe, maybe not. Post what game it is.

it sounds like it is an older game that came out before people usually had more than one drive.

their should be an .ini file in the game directory that says which drive is set to defalt.

make sure to back up any files you change.

read the readme file that came with the game. that might help.
