BCWipe question
I just used bcwipe to erase the hard drive. I heard that low level format is good for overwriting the files that are missed during format. Do you recommend this BCWipe software as an alternative to low level format?

How did you format the "entire" HD with BCWipe?
I thought it was a "Windows-based" utility for securely deleting files and wiping the free space and slack in Windows. In other words, you wipe the files instead of deleting them in the normal day-to-day running of your PC. To wipe a HD entirely, you'd be just as well to use a Zero Fill utility from your HD manufacturer. This is called a low level format by some HD manufacturers, but really this is a misnomer. Zero fill and Wiping are really intermediate or mid-level formatting. The only low-level formatting done these days, is by the manufacturer before the HD leaves the factory. |
