password protection. need help
how can i put a password in a computer before the OS (or POST)loads? what software can i use for this?

put a password in the bios.
enter bios supervisor password enter one but you better not forget it ![]() save then exit |

You may need to change another option in BIOS to make the password window appear before booting and not only before entering BIOS, if you get this problem, look for security and change it from setup to system.

There are some differences with those BIOS passwords-- some are user and supervisor, some are called system, and setup. Either case you set user or system password and reboot and will need to enter the password just to get the BIOS to load. If you do forget it though, there is a jumper on the MOBO to clear the password.

the only thing that gets password protected is the bios setup

Thats the difference between user&supervisor or system&setup//
user or system depending on what your BIOS calls it will halt the entire boot process and wait for a password. Supervisor or setup will do as you think and just password protect the BIOS, which I always keep set ON especially my kids PC's. Mysteriously found BIOS set back to defaults on my daughter's before I password protected it, and of course she couldn't imagine how it happened. |
