Correctly installing Quicktime

I've tried doing without Quicktime because of problems in the past but there are some video clips that I really want to watch that can only be watched on Quicktime so I'd like to try and install it again.

The problem I had in the past was that after installing it, the software practically took over EVERYTHING. When I click on anything to do with MP3's Musicmatch takes over and I want to keep it that way. When I click on a video clip that windows media player can play, WMP takes over and I want to it that way.

The last time I installed Quicktime, it tried to take over all of the above. Now this was quite some time ago so I'm not exactly sure what went wrong. What I'd like to do is install Quicktime again but install it in a way that the only time it raises it's ugly head is when I click on a VIDEO clip that will run with nothing else but Quicktime. I don't want it trying to play MP3's or trying to take over when I click on a video clip that is perfectly capable of playing on windows media player.

Can anyone help me with this.

I'm using windows 98SE

After you install it, just go to EDIT and Preferences, and set it to what you want.

Make sure you do a "Custom" install, and ONLY select the Quicktime viewer, then check in Preferences, and set it to ONLY view .mov and .qt files, nothing else!

Oops. I've already run into a problem. I tried the custom install idea and these were the choices I had to choose from.........
Quicktime...

Essentials
Internet Extras
Still Image
Effects
Music
Authoring
Capture
3 D
For Java
Diagnostics

As none of these choices are "Viewer" I thought I'd better check back with you guys before I make a mistake. Now I'm assuming that from the choices above, all I want is "Essentials" but you know what they say about assuming. So, what do ya think?

Essentials, is what you want. Of course it will still install something you don't want, but you can change that in Preferences later.
