QuickTime movies freeze computer!

I'm pretty good with computers having completed several builds over the past few years and have done my share of trouble shooting, but I need help on this one. I cannot play the quicktime movies taken with my Olympus cameras, they simply freeze on me. A while back I did download a program that converted .mov to avi's and that seemed to do the trick (although I had tried many fixes and it might have been a combination of things that finally worked).

At any rate, I did a reformat a couple months ago and now I simply can't play the movies at all. In fact, if there a quicktime movie online my puter will freeze. So, anything with a .mov extension is not to my puters liking.

My computer is an AMD 1.2 ghz with 256mb's crucial ram and a 64mb Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 video card (this I think is the culprit). I'm using win 98 FE.

Any ideas? The cards drivers are the most recent.
