Data recovery from a cd

Houston, we have a probem.

A while back, before I knew that my cd-rw required certain cd's or else (Iomega ZipCd 650), I made a few cd's on some unapproved disks. On occasion, six months to a year later and an XP upgrade from Win98se, the Iomega won't read a disk. Sometimes, that's not too much of a problem because it's personal junk and I can live with it. But sometimes it's photo studio stuff. This happened the other day. I had an order for an image and I can't read the cd it's on. Fortunately, the bulk of the order was shot with film, so there was only that one photo that we couldn't provide (wedding photos). I called a data recovery company and it would cost $150 jut to look at it. If they can do anything with it it can cost up to $800 to get the info (including the original $150). Needless to say that didn't happen. I seem to recall hearing about software that can retrieve data from a compact flash card. I must have heard about this in one of the photo mailing lists I'm on. Is there such software (that can be run at home) that I can use to get info from the cd? The cd isn't even recognized by the operating system.

Thankx,
Dave

Have you tried that CD in other systems and CD drives?

Yes. Two at a photo lab, and one at a friend's and at her work place.
