Im trying to rename some of the songs from my Kazaa "Shared Folder", and then move them to my "My Music" folder, no problems there, they can be moved, but when I try and rename the songs, I get a message that says "If you change the filename extension, it may become unusable", and it does, I renamed one song, and now it wont work in my winamp, it doesnt even recognize it as a winamp file, just as a file, I dont see what the problem is, I do this all the time on my PC(Im on my friends) it never gives me this msg on mine, but Im on Win XP, and he's on ME, anyone know how to get it to stop doing this, or how to get it to read the file I changed, back into a winamp file so it can be used, Im just renaming, what is the problem?

Your friend probably has "Hide file extensions for known file type" unticked under Tools->Folder Options->View. Now in the process of renaming some of your files you probably erased the ".mp3" extension which makes the file unusable.
Make sure you don't remove the extension .mp3, or just recheck the box "Hide file extensions..." |

Exactly what Smoke said
I'll put my money on Smoke; becauseI was going to say the same exact thing.
Dude, when you are renaming your files you need to put the extension back. Now one of 2 things are happening: 1. You have "Hide File Extensions" checked off and not realizing you are doing this. So remove that check. 2. Any file you renamed and were download are more than likely mp3 files. So just add the following extension to them .mp3 and you should be in the clear. If that for some reason doesn't fix your problem, just try different extensions till you find the right one. Just use the most common ones, but when it comes to downloading music, *.mp3 is pretty much what everyone downloads. |
