ASPI Drivers
Hi
I need to download a new ASPI driver for my Lite On DVD ROM, sorry for being dumb but if I download the "Adaptec" ASPIs floating around will it be OK to use? Thanks

Adaptec's ASPI layer files seem to work for just about everything.
Get the "checkASPI" file and run it first, then if needed, update the drivers. |

Yes, it was needed after all as it said I had no ASPI drivers installed
On a general: Can anybody tell me why is it that Windows 2000 doesn't usually need to restart after making changes as apposed to 9X? Thanks Jim |

Completely different kernel. Win2k and XP can update as needed, then put the info into memory, overwriting the old. Win9x had to restart to update settings and load any .dlls and .vxd's associated.

Thanks
Do you know if this is ALWAYS the case? I.e. are there some instances when one does need to restart Win2K (after installing DX or other drivers perhaps?) Jim |

There is the odd time when I remember having to restart, but usually only when a program install requires itself to be put into the startup group, and windows updates. I can't think of any other.

Most of the time when I have had to reboot win2k it has been after installing some piece of software that needs it (applications etc.).
