Question PS CD's and regular CD's

I'm just curious why playstation CD's won't work in a CD drive. I'm assuming that they're written in a different format. If this is true, how are they formatted and how are they read a PS?

I can assure you, PlayStation game CD's CAN be read by a normal computer CD-ROM drive.

Some of the PS "CD's" are really DVD's- may be that's the problem

Prew, if some Playstation game discs were in fact DVD's, then they would not work in a PlayStation since a PS only has a CD-ROM drive (and a slow one at that).

Only situation you'd get PS1 games on DVD is if they were for the PS2 ONLY. I'm not sure, do you get PS1 games compilations for the PS2 on DVD?

UFO, I think your last post probbably confused some people(inluding me ).

PS2 has a DVD-ROM, it has games on either CDs or DVDs.
PS1 has a CD-ROM, all PS1 games should thus be CD-ROMs.

Identification: the different discs have different colors-
PS2 CD-ROM = blue
PS2 DVD-ROM = silver
PS1 CD-ROM = black

With a DVD-ROM in you PC, you should be able to see PS1/2 games. However, there will be copy protection on any playstation disc.

Didn't know if he was talking about PS1 or PS2. Just know a friend of mine was trying to make backups of what he thought were PS2 Cd's with his CDRW when the discs were really DVD's

PS disks can be read in a computer. I don't know how well it worked, but there was PS emulator for the PC called Bleem.

I just tried a PSX CD in my CD-ROM and it read it fine, and showed files and folders.

The files are junk to windows of course, but it can 'see' them.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

I know I wasn't really specific between the two PS models. I dodn't know there was a difference between the two readers.

I was just curious because I tried looking at a PS1 CD in my comp a few years ago, but it didn't show up. Just recently, someone brought my attention back to the subject, and my curiousity was piqued once again.

I figured that windows would only see the files as "garbage"...if it read it at all. Thanks again!
