Program to periodocally check email?
I want something that will do the following:
1) Check my email account once per minute 2) Leave all messages on the server 3) If there's new mail, run an external program that I specify. I'd prefer something with as few additional features as possible. Freeware is certainly a huge plus, as I don't want to pay for this. I already use Mailwasher (and Eudora), but Mailwasher can't do #3 on that list.

I use Mailbox Verifier - but it can't run an external program automatically, it just alerts. You CAN set it so when you click on its tray icon with the left mouse button, it will run your default mailer.

I want it to run a program I wrote whenever there's new mail -- the program blinks the scroll lock light until you hit the scroll lock key. I had tried another email notification program that blinked all the keyboard lights, but that was annoying to have happen while typing, because it toggles the caps lock so the text loOKS LIke thIS.
Being as I don't much care about the scroll lock, I'd rather have my PC blink that light, but to do that I need a mailer that can run an external program. |

You're in luck Paul, I've been using Jet Mail Monitor for over a year now and it does exactly what you want.
