Depends what you're backing up, and where to?
Simply copying a folder to a CDRW is simple enough, or a floppy if it's small enough. A separate hard drive even. Need more info

Thanks Reboot- I guess what I want to do is:
a) schedule an automatic backup, on a regular basis, as everytime I lose stuff its just before I was planning on getting around to doing it. b) What ? Despite my best efforts to keep the entire hard drive down to what can hold on a CD, I think unfortunately we're all past that. So,.. I guess all my personal data, files, including photos etc. but not programs, I can always reload those. Plus essential OS settings/info like registry and ??. Lost drivers have caused tears when I have formatted and forgotten to save them- but those are a one time backup that I should keep on a CD. c) Where? On my second hard drive I'd say, but I've heard of people losing both HDD's at the same time. ( Florida is the lightning capital of the world) So- some on the 2nd HDD , but v. important stuff on CD(s)that are updated but less frequently than the 2nd HDD So, I guess its a two stage, two level, thing. I would ideally enter what to save, where to save , and when to save, depending on the importance of the stuff, and the software would deal with it. Maybe it would just nag me about the CD backup. I'm kind of thinking out loud here. ( Well... you said : "Need more info ") All the best, Chris. |

Then Panterasoft is as good as any.
To get all the bells and whistles you want, you're going to have to buy something. I don't know of any freebies that do all that. |

My stupidity never ceases to amaze me. I just dragged and dropped a huge file with 50 photos into the CD burner software
and couldn't understand why the recorded CD contents were only 32 Kb. It was the shortcut to the folder. Shame ! I need to back up my brain ! |

I'm not trying to hijack or butt in on your post Parangles, but I'm looking for the same thing. I've been told that Novastor (NovaBACKUP) is good and also heard of Paterasoft. I'd like to be able to backup probably to CD's and do a restore from the same thing should I lose my hd. Thanks in advance.
