Firewire Software

Hi All

Ive just sorted my new computer and it has a firwire port included with my new motherboard, the question is, do I need special software to be able to access the firewire port and obtain the information form the video camera etc?

Many thanks

Karl

If you have Windows XP it has software (I believe it's called Movie Maker) that you can import you video to, if you want any fancier you will have to look around. I think there's a free video editing software besides Microsoft, I can't remember the name, but I am sure someone on here would know.

Thanks for the help. I assume that the camera will be detected when I plug it into the FW port os should most cameras come with drivers etc?

Thanks again

Hi karl.pestell,

If you're using WinXP, it has native support for firewire already built in...no need to install any drivers for it. To check, go into Device Manager.

If drivers are required, the motherboard CD should have them. Any Firewire device you buy should come with any required drivers too. I don't know about ME, but I just put a firewire card into a Win2000 box and the OS saw it with no drivers required - but the DV cam required drivers (which it came with).
