Hi ya'll new here to the forum and already got a question
![]() i am wanting to make a template that works like a pop up wizard, so when i use the .dot i can type the information that changes in the pop up window instead of going back and doing it on the document itself.ex. my name is________. the pop up window would go and ask me what name to put in the spots. |

I have made a lot of templates in Word but I have no idea how to make it ask for the info. I just make them where you fill in the blanks and when you save them they will be saved as .doc leaving your template intact.

Tis actually pretty simple, and you can use the Word help for more information. However I will give you one way of doing it.
Suppose you want to type a letter " Dear Ask for recepient name Please come to my party. Sincerely Ask for sender name" Start by openning a new document, and save as a template .. like letter.dot right from the beginning. In the place Ask for recepient name (at the appropriate place) go to the Insert menu > Field select the Mail Merge Category and in the field name you can use FILLIN (Fill-In). In the field code, when you select Fill-In you should see FILLIN type out something like: FILLIN "What is the recipient name" (with all the "-marks intact) Type out the rest of your letter and after the line "sincerely" do the same process.. except this time you can make it: FILLIN "What is the sender's name" Save your .dot file Now you can open up your document as NEW > letter.dot .. you should first see a prompt asking for the recipient name; followed by a prompt asking for sender name. Once you fill all those in, you will see your final letter with the names filled in. You can also use the "ASK" field code as well, it functions a little differently from FILLIN, you can check out your help file for more information on their differences as well as advanced switches. HTH. |

Sounds interesting, does it actually pop up a window or does it place the requested text in the blank you will be filling in?

It pops up a window; whatever you put in the prompt of the FILLIN shows up as the popup window title.

That's cool I have some guys I have a hard time getting accurate data from because I think they don't understand how to fill out any form I have made for them. Maybe this will help. Thanks.
