Ram, or a conflict. Try installing with only a hard drive, cd drive, and video card hooked up. Test your ram with Docmemory or try a different stick.

Hi racerxfactor,

Besides the above, some older motherboards won't let windows install if the Virus checker is running. How old is the motherboard you're working with?

not sure it could be a mobo issue. it's a k7t turbo with a 1.4 tbird chip. well eventually i tried an old nt disk and that installed fine. so i'm going through each disk till i find a good copy and format again

Your mobo is probably new enough, but it only takes a few moments to turn off the BIOS antivirus to test it out. At least that way, it is one more possibility out of the way.

i went back into the bios and the antivurs software was already disabled. on top of that i'm having a new problem when i boot up my computer. after it goes through memory test and detction hardware, it'll start with the first quote during installation

"setup is now checking yout configurations" and then i just goes black.

?????????

Hi racerxfactor,

I assume you did as glc suggest above?? If so, then I'd would probably start a new install. I've seen machines that took 5 - 6 tires to load Win 98. They kept spitting it out, then it would take and run like champs...

yes i've tried only having one cdrom drive one harddrive and one stick of ram . funny thing is nt 4 will still go into the setup proccess while 98 and xp just crap out.

I had too much fun last night, and am still paying for it... The only thing else I can think of right now is, with everything out but the above, to re-format and start clean. Hopefully someone will have a better idea...

Just download DocMem, run it, which will create a floppy. Then boot to that floppy, and run the tests. Can't remember if you have to make the floppy bootable, or Doc does it for you. It should come with instructions.
