Question for Hal or anyone else with a large library of MP3's
What program do you use for your MP3 library? I've been using Musicmatch, but have been having problems with it. What are some other programs out there that can manage a lot of MP3's? (At the moment I have about 1,100)

I use WMP on windows and I-Tunes on the Mac. My ipod sees a lot of duty and on windows i use x-play with it. WMP also works with my pocket pc's for music and video.

For my collection, I still use winamp to play them all. I just put them all on a playlist and it works fine. You can even make different playlists for different genre's etc. Then to play, just double click on the playlist file. HTH

For music.... mostly 80's Pop, Rock, Heavy Metal. I would actually like to try the ATI Media Library, but it doesn't work on my XP Home. It's a known issue that it may/may not work under XP and no current solution, hopefully the release of MMC 8 will allow me to try it.

MMC-- I believe that is referring to ATI's Multimedia Center software.

I think the Creative Mediasource that comes with the Audigy 2 cards allows you to make different play lists, but not sure. I don't use the d*rn program. It's slow as molasses!!

I'm using Winamp, I must say I preferred Winamp 2's 'J' key instead of having to click on the playlist, press F3 and then search, and then click on the other window to play it
Oooh, it's so time consuming compared to J - type - Enter Jim |

I have winamp as well, but I only use it for previewing files to be added to my collection.
Hal, I guess MMC is out of the question for me. I don't have a ATI card, not do I plan to get one anytime soon. ![]() I guess I'll just stick with Musicmatch. I would've thought you guys would have some fancy MP3 player to help keep your libraries organized. |

I very seldom play music on my computers and Windows Media Player works for me. The one I actually like the best is Tray Play. It doesn't have very many features but is very simple and it doesn't take up any space on the taskbar.

I have about 1,486 or so of MP3's and I just Winamp 2.8, I don't personally like the new one.
BTW believe it or not the reason I have so many MP3's, I have nearly 100's CD's and I realized I never listened to many of them about the time MP3's got big, so I got a program and converted them to MP3 format, which made them fix on about 10 CDR's, also only takes about 5GB's on my hard drive, so i can just hit it up on random and hear stuff i have not heard in years. I love my set up |

That's exactly what I have done byte. The majority of my MP3's are from the approximate 250 CD's I have that I converted to MP3 format.

I converted my CDs too. I simply have my MP3 drive, and a folder for each album I ripped. I play with WinAmp and have playlists for all songs by a group in case I just want to hear Jimi or Led Zeppelin for a few hours.
