Smile How do i compress a divX file

Hi,

I need to know how to compress a 750mb divx file so i can fit it on to a 700mb disk without overburning or ripping it. Also what do i need to do this and where do i download it?

Thanks.

You can try Zipping it, but isn't divx already compressed to the max?

you can re-encode it with a lower bitrate or chop the credits off.

Compressing it with Winzip, Winrar, or Winace (which supposedly will compress it the most) is fine if all you need to do is get the files onto a CD, but you won't be able to play the CD in a CD or DVD player. I think Streams has the answer for making a playable CD.

Have you tried recording it anyway as a video CD? I assume this is a video and not a huge audio file - and it's my understanding that a 800mb video will actually record to under 700. I may be confusing this with something else, but you have nothing to lose trying.

Save the file somewhere else just in case - if you have enough free space on your drive. Why are you trying to put it on a CD? So you can play it, right?

You can get youself an 800MB cdr or split the video into two clips and burn to two cdr's.

encoding it in mpeg wont help as the file size would be bigger than 750MB and the quality would be reduced.

If you wish to split the divx there is a great shareware program that will do that for you here: http://www.doeasier.org/splitter/
