Well, there are plenty good DVD burners out there. I'd check Ricoh, Philips, HP, they make very good drives.
Plextor will release a DVD burner in march this year. All mentioned burners are + burners, that burn to DVD+R/+RW, the superior DVD technology. There is also a - format, the DVD-R/-RW. It is barely supported, only Pioneer, Toshiba and Teac produce DVD-R/-RW burners. If you want the option to burn "-" anyway, then there is only the Sony DRU500A, which burns to both + and -. Personally, I would get a quality "+" burner, such as the Ricoh MP5125A, or the new HP dvd300i with 4x DVD+R burning. No matter for which format you decide, you should know that blank DVDs are only 4.38 GB (single layer), whereas most movie DVDs are 7.95 GB (dual layer), so 1:1 copies are mostly not possible. RJ
