dvd burner

can anyone tell me the best burner to use to make back ups of my dvds ..and how to copy my old vhs movies to dvd..thanx guys

Well, there are plenty good DVD burners out there. I'd check Ricoh, Philips, HP, they make very good drives.
Plextor will release a DVD burner in march this year.

All mentioned burners are + burners, that burn to DVD+R/+RW, the superior DVD technology.

There is also a - format, the DVD-R/-RW. It is barely supported, only Pioneer, Toshiba and Teac produce DVD-R/-RW burners. If you want the option to burn "-" anyway, then there is only the Sony DRU500A, which burns to both + and -.
Personally, I would get a quality "+" burner, such as the Ricoh MP5125A, or the new HP dvd300i with 4x DVD+R burning.

No matter for which format you decide, you should know that blank DVDs are only 4.38 GB (single layer), whereas most movie DVDs are 7.95 GB (dual layer), so 1:1 copies are mostly not possible.
