Well then, what media are you using and which brand is it ?
So the burn process won't even start, right ?
Are you sure you have a "+" disc, not a "-" one ?

Does he have the same burner as you have ?

You should know, there are two formats, the plus format (with DVD+R as write once and DVD+RW as rewritable media), which is the best format, and there is also the minus format (with DVD-R as write once and DVD-RW as rewritable), which was the first format but can't keep up with the plus format.

And so there are plus and minus burners. The majority is plus (like your NEC, you already said that it's a DVD+R/+RW drive), and the minority consisting of Pioneer, Teac and Toshiba sell minus burners (DVD-R/-RW).
Only Sony sells a burner capable of writing to both + and - formats.

So when you insert a minus disc into your plus writer, then it won't work. You need to use plus discs.
If your friend has a minus burner then you can't use the same discs as you have a plus burner. vice versa it's the same, a minus burner can't write to plus media.

So you need to check what type of media you have, as you can only use DVD+R and DVD+RW discs.

Not to get this thread off the given topic, but I am interested why RJ would consider the "+" varient to be "the best" format? In my field of music, the "+" format is considered second fiddle to the "-" format due to severe compatability issues with the DVD-Audio format. At the recent NAMM show in Los Angeles, the "+" format proved itself the pretender at the Philips booth by not providing a pure sync for DVD-Audio recording. The demo was the laughing stock of the show.

This subject of + vs. - has been beaten around here quite a bit. RJ is a very stubborn advocate of the + format and I believe he is right from a PC use standpoint, but the A/V pros here are just as stubborn from a consumer player standpoint in the - camp and I think they are also right. Its the Beta vs. VHS debate all over again.

weman4u - you have a DVD+R/RW, which means you have to use + blanks. If you had a DVD-R/RW you would have to use - blanks. No reason to be lost.

Your IDE settings are fine. From the looks of your drive the + discs ought to do the trick.

Make sure your Nero is 5.5.9.17 or newer, that's the first version that supports your drive. You can download a free update if your version is older.
