Music software question
Greetings! I have been browsing these forums for about the past two weeks and I must say, I like what I see. There are so many forums like this but not like this. On some forums, people ask for help and get nothing or worse. Here, most members genuinely care.
I had originally come to this site hoping to find help with music editing software. I had been told by a few people that there is a person here that is very well versed in these issues and that combined with the overall atmpsphere at this site, I should recieve the help I need. I wish I could remember the name of the member I am looking for but I cannot. So it is my hope that he sees my posting. My problem is with a program called Logic Audio. I had seen this package used in a few studios where I have been hired as a session player. But it's painfully obvious to me now that those studios paid someone to install this package as I cannot get it to work properly. I have been over and over the users manual and to be honest, it is like reading the 2002 tax laws. According to Logic Audio's documentation, my setup is correct. I have my MOTU 828 recognized in the program but it will not recognize my keyboard that is hooked to the MOTU 828 (via MIDI). According to MOTU's configuration panel, there is MIDI data flowing in both directions. Aside from that, Logic Audio is setup correctly (again, according to the documentation). So essentially, I cannot get any MIDI data from my keyboard to Logic Audio. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have posted this problem at several music related web sites and have gotten nothing more than comments that I should use a different software package or different hardware. And for the record, my system consists of: P4 2.53Gig running on a Intel D845PEBT2 with 1Gig of PC2700 DDR. MOTU (Mark of the Unicorn) 828 firewire audio interface. 200Gig WD Hard drive Windows XP Professional Thankyou, John. Last edited by musicality; 02-15-2003 at 12:32 PM. |

Thank you. I read your PM when I first logged on. I suppose I will need to look elsewhere for help then.

Posted via my 3rda party Audio expert:
"The problem with Logic Audio is that it's based on the Mac and ported over to Windows. In a Mac environment, you'd get a program called OMS from opcode.com and install it. It acts as a MIDI transport for audio apps like Logic Audio. But since they ported this beast over to Windows, OMS is of no real value. So in this case you'll need to set up the ASIO drivers to also act as the MIDI transport. To change this in Logic, Start Logic and then go to Options--->Preferences--->MIDI Interface Communication. In that window you can change MIDI control from Windows default to ASIO standard. You also want to make sure the following boxes are checked: Stop and Release, External Stop ends Record, Always Stop when opening song, Allow Song Position Pointer while playing. That should take care of the problem. If it doesn't, I saw in another post (re: DVD burners) that John had worked with C2 Media here in Grand Rapids. He can get ahold of Dave over there and Dave canput John in contact with me (since Mason is but a hop, skip and a jump from GR." |

Reboot,
Can I assume that this "expert" the the departed Audiyoda I've been looking for? In any event, I cannot tell you how overjoyed I am that I've got a possible solution. And if I recall from reading another post of Audiyoda's his name is Craig. I will be calling Dave ASAP when I get back to the homestead. I almost feel like a little kid on Christmas morning! John. |
