Does anyone use a hard drive just for storage? I mean like a second HD where you only have mp3's or pictures and documents?
That's what I going to do and was just wondering, here comes the silly question, how should it be formatted? I'll be using Win2000 and Linux on the first HD(dual boot). I want both OS's to have access to the mp3's and pictures. Second HD, NTFS or fat 32? I've got about 50-60 CD's and I'm going, or at laest planning to convert them to mp3's and put them on a 2nd HD so I can listen to anything in my collection. I like the I deal of just hitting ramdom when all the music I own is involved. Thanks.

I would format it in FAT32, but I'm not 100% sure about linux.

Use a common file system that both OS's can see and will support large partitions. With Win2K that is NTFS or FAT32 - I don't know what Linux will see.

Fat 32. Most of the newer Linux versions will read/write to FAT32.

I'm not a Linux Guru by any means but I think FAT32 is about your only viable option. I know the version of Linux I have played with won't see NTFS but it will use FAT32 just fine which is what I have mine installed on. NTFS support is supposed to be coming for Linux but I haven't seen anything that suggests it is available now.

Linux should have no problem reading and writing to FAT32. Linux can usually read NTFS, but not write to it.
